ITA After School – first meeting

The kick start of our programme has surprisingly gathered 12 out of the 13 participants enrolled. The timing was tight and I anticipate it will be even tighter throughout the programme, but I believe each of us enjoyed the almost 2 hours of togetherness as art students.

For this first event we have put up a “hand raising” poll to see how we anticipate our future practice in relation to the theoretical/artistic studies that we are currently doing.  The most preferred working domains that the participants currently envisage for their future are art education and research, while collecting and museology are preferred by the fewest ones. We’ll see if or how these options change in the next months.

I hope all the participants were pleased and happy to attend this first meeting of our After School programme. For an insight on the event you can read the agenda below:

  • Mission review: the Art History and Theory department mission: – general discussion about the practical possibilities and personal interests of entering a working field (art education, research, cultural project management, cultural assistance, museology / museography, independent / institutional curatorship, collecting, commerce, editing or cultural journalism)

  • proposal and assignment of magazines to be documented and analyzed (from the following list: e-flux journal, Afterall, Frieze, October, Parkett, Mousse, Flash Art, Art Forum, Art Press, Art Monthly, Cabinet, Art in America, Aesthetica, Manifesta Journal)
  • proposal of text to be read, analyzed, synthesized and discussed  (the proposed text is: Liam Gillick, Contemporary art does not account for that which is taking place, e-flux journal, december 2010)
  • proposal for individual text handout: “My Best Text Ever”
  • individual preparation for video interviews

The received applications have clearly shown that there is an open interest and awareness for students to get involved in complementary projects inside the Faculty of Arts in Iasi, which confirms the relevance and necessity of undertaking this project.

Launching After School

The After School program will be launched at the University of Arts in Iasi, Romania. Our website will be updated with the necessary content prior to the official launch. We recommend you to return regularly and check out the latest news.
